Power is power. If it's geared down to get past ice jams with 9 year-old arms, that just means you have to crank faster
I grew up in the Rocky Mountains when TV had four channels and video games didn't exist yet. But we definitely had ice cream makers. )
I've never seen such an ice maker though.

So you can get pick up giant bags of ice everywhere. Is that a thing in South Africa?
It's generally quite a hot country, and we like BBQ (though you dare not call it a barbeque in SA; it's a "braai"!).
Seems so simple!
As a child, my Girl Scout troop leader ordered a new one from Pampered Chef and made some ice cream for a troop meeting. That was the sole extent of my experience with this type of machine.
You can still buy them on Amazon, albeit usually motorized to save your arms.
