3 sides of my family fled to Liverpool Salford & Glasgow as refugees from Ireland. Ancestry says I'm 64% Irish & I fucking love potatoes in any form.
Here in Australia we were taught the British empire was benign whereas it was exact opposite. India hasn't had a famine since 1947.

Which one? 1943? There were others in 1700s & late 1800s that killed millions. British empire modus operandi starvation, grand larceny & subjugation. I'm a bit bitter worked in many forme British colonies & lived in Oz.

The word famine is misleading both in India and Ireland and is just British propaganda. An actual "famine" is when farmers crops cannot be harvested due to a blight or sometimes because of a flood or a drought etc. The deaths of millions of Indians and over half a million Irish was man made

ABSOLUTELY, it’s ethnic cleansing. I do get angry when people misuse the term “potato famine”. My ancestors were from Achill Island & mainland Co Mayo, say no more.
We were watching BBC panel show & this snooty Pom was berating an 🇮🇳 journalist who asked how many famines since 1947 no answer.
