The introduction would blunt the impact of the first lines of that book.

If it's anything more than a page or two, I usually skip it because I feel like the long ones usually contain spoilers. Sometimes I'll come back at the end... But not always

They usually bore me but I will often read them after I finish the book

I also like stand up comedy but really dislike the pre-recorded intros

I rarely ever read them. I don't want my ideas and feelings for the story to be muddled by someone else's. And sometimes, the entire plot is ruined in the introductions. If i liked the book, i might go back and read it.

I always read them. They are part of diving in, as far as I’m concerned. Also, I would recommend Shirley Jackson’s biography A Rather Haunted Life by Ruth Franklin, if you haven’t already read it. It’s well-written, absorbing and shows why Jackson’s horror stories are so compelling.
