He's not wrong. Electronic voting is a horrible idea bc everything that makes more efficient also makea it more efficient for manipulation. It's just a lot harder to fake tons of ballots without leaving a trace.

Obviously, he's saying it for other reasons but he's kinda right.

Touch screen voting without a paper receipt, checked for accuracy, should be flat out illegal.
And even the above should be phased out ASAP.

e.g.: MN votes with pencil "bubble" forms and tabulation at each precinct. Fast, clear, fully auditable (and in fact randomly audited after each elex).

Even the receipt requires you to trust the machine that it does what you think it does. That means, you have to trust the people who control and inspect the machines to not mess with them and keep others from messing with them. And then you also need to trust that there are no bugs.

Thing is, that applies to paper voting too, you put your vote in a box. The box is whisked away and "counted", but how do you know that counting centre is actually doing it?

Here in the UK we have people watching, but that's about it, a computer can't hide anything, the instructions are recovered

People from all parties on the ballot watch it. They can do the math, tally the votes from everywhere and check it. And you can do recounts.

It's possible to manipulate paper voting but it's harder to scale up then changing some code, it will leave traces and requires lots of people & communication

And the stakes are very high, so messing with the machines could be worth spending a lot of money on bribes or equipment. It would arguably be worth even buying companies who make the machines.
It's just such an unnecessary vulnerability.

it occurs to me if Elon wants to financially support an actual attack on the government, then I think he have some real issues moving forward.
