and we do not support him in this house. She asked a few more questions and i was rather vaguely saying things like "he is taking away people's freedoms" and "he is trying to take over our country". She is smart as can be and knew there was more but didn't press her questions too much.

Since then, she has come to me every night (partially to get out of going to bed on time) to ask me "What did Donald Trump do today?" and I have been brutally honest with her. She listens and takes it all to heart, but I never set her up to understand the implications of it all.

Prior to this, we have never spoken to her about politics, racism, sexism, transphobia, or anything really. A privilege and a failure on our part. She is obsessed with learning about other countries and probably knows more than i do about some of their relationships. So we've been talking.

"that guy in all the old pictures that made black and white people ok with each other". I told her black and white people are absolutely not ok with each other but i pulled up MLK's picture and she said "Yeah him!" Then i looked up "MLK color photos" and she was blown away they existed.

I explained to her that it's done on purpose, to make it seem like it was a lot longer ago than it was and that her Grandmas were alive at the same time, color photos absolutely exist, and that it wasn't that long ago. She couldn't believe it.
