Much bad information comes from Bad-Faith actors such as Techbros, Oligarchs, Enterprises, and Governments, to well-meaning but ill-informed or mistaken people, to some taking art like science fiction and confusing it with reality.

Specifically the character in Hamlet named Polonius who famously said: “Brevity is the soul of wit!” and who was clearly the longest-winded and dumbest character in Shakespeare’s longest play. Polonius would with frequency launch into self-contradictory rants everyone hated.

Polonius is unceremoniously and accidentally killed by Hamlet, who stabs at a curtain, a curtain Polonius was hiding behind while he was spying. Because Polonius was just that bad, and no one cared when he died, except Hamlet did feel some guilt, because it wasn’t the King.

Yet, people today use the phrase unironically and consider it one of Shakespeare’s greatest and most wise quotes. In reality, Shakespeare knew the critics of the day would hate how long Hamlet was becoming, and made Polonius a pre-critique of their forthcoming criticisms.

A.I. is like Polonius.

A.I, is designed by engineers, but, mostly owned and directed by egomaniacal billionaires. Thus far, the greatest achievements of A.I. that we have seen is likely personal privacy invasion and en masse plagiarism. These things in turn create a chilling effect on the people that use them.
