Not optimistic but would really like for Mateta injury to bring refereeing / PGMOL / IFAB to refocus priorities.
🔴Stop deprioritising violent conduct and serious foul play
🔴Stop focusing on nonsense nobody cares about
🔴Treat dangerous tackles around the head / face far more seriously.

Existing wording of reckless or excessive force should have been enough
Oliver saw what MLS did as a straight red in real time but this one took intervention.
To correct course will take a wholesale overhaul of the officiating body and the people who do the actual job.
It’s not happening.
I don’t know where this theory came from that what we need to do is not punish the dangerous stuff.
Stop trying to reinvent the wheel. League engagement isn't an issue. Do your job. How did we get so far from the whole point of a referee?
But, no, it's the two footed jumps, forearms & studs to the head that are allowed....& defenders can still dive
In isolation I like the idea of ridding the game of tactical disruption, but they implement things for their own PR not the actual game
It just needs a refereeing body that is less focused on TV exposure and more focused on overseeing the development of the best referees that are consistently coached and supported.
I'll wait...
But then he is following the guidance of the ref who thought studs to the chest was only a yellow.
Can't see that going to shit at all.
Can't see that being something they punish once (probably Raya) to then never punish again.
Can definitely see that helping the safety of players.
Easier trying to get a cat to fuck a mouse than get any of those idiots to admit when they're wrong.
This focus on certain rules is ridiculous
Webb cares about nonsense nobody else cares about, so here we are
He/they only ever talk about the amount of decisions they get right, but that’s just highlighting performance metrics.
What’s his vision on what they are actually there to do.
Wonder if PGMOL can't/won't do that because a) they don't know the answer or b) the answer is they want to be the centre of the story which is unacceptable.
I might be completely wrong and they do all of this, but I’ve not seen it. Admittedly I probably haven’t gone looking
"We believe in maintaining player safety above all else. We are unapologetic about this. It will mean red cards for those who are dangerous on a football pitch. Change your actions in light of this".
The look on his face when he had to change his mind was hardly singing player protection.
It’s been 3 years and I’ve still not recovered. My career disappeared, still can’t work full time hours in any line of work, and had to give up doing sport completely
Don’t fuck about with head injuries
Clubs complaints? Career ending injuries?
Spot on
It’s bizarre that they don’t prioritise player safety
What will it take for them to address it?
