They're moving to the "you're only buying a license to the content" model which infests everying these days.

I am moving more and more toward buying epubs directly from the authors if that option is available.

- Authors' direct stores (many with fulfilment via Bookfunnel)
- Smashwords
- Book View Cafe
- Kobo (Kobo Plus is an alternative to Kindle Unlimited for authors who want to publish wide & still have a subscription option)
- mainstream publishers' direct stores (Tachyon, Rebellion)

So far none of the abovementioned sources have said "Ooops we lost all your pre-orders, your readers will have to submit them again" or "we don't like your face, we're shutting down your account, buh-bye" as Amazon has been known to do.

Everyone works differently. For myself I have about 5 metres of book space, split into six (three large, three small) sections. my #FamilyHistory shelf is a metre long. I am addicted to the local history sections of #Oxfam bookshops. #GenHour 1/2

Every year I do a cull to get the books to fit the shelf, but I do find excuses to expand #Genealogy onto the "to read", "large reference" or "general non fiction" shelves. Who needs a gardening reference book anyway???? #GenHour 2/2
