the sector is fatigued? the sector doesn't have the political clout of the steel industry? could it be because uni managements have engaged in a prolonged war of attrition with their own staff, aimed primarily at crushing organised labour in the sector?

Seeing university managers go all in on AI after spending two decades on a property development spree to churn out some of the worst looking buildings imaginable makes me question if any of them actually know what universities are for anymore. Funny how there's always cash for more managers as well.

On my last job I have sat there and had the manager for the admin department we worked in explain that we they would be receiving the increased workload we had from going from eight to five staff by hiring another manager to improve processes (managers for the team going from two to five).
