Badenough doesn’t have a clue. No surprise - how do you overcome 14 years of total incompetence. She can’t put forward any policies. She continues to allow people such as Jenrick and Braverman to spout their bile which presumably will result in a merger between the Tories and Reform.
It’s obvious why she’s moving to the right but at what point does she get outmanoeuvred? Isn’t there a potential scenario where Reform/Tories merge, Farage takes leadership and Braverman just looks like an outlier from an increasing RW mainstream?
I wonder if a problem we have with careerist politicians is relevance over achievement becomes the point? They can see no other way to success other to remaining in the public eye? I think this a lot when I see Truss. Surely she'd be happier with a different third act?
Honestly, I think it's slightly more cynical than that - I think it feels like it's just about getting funding, traction and donors for the next campaign/issue, rather than feeling like they genuinely want to inform/shape the public debate.
I'm not sure the Romans were so financially incentivised!
Would love to hear counter arguments to Badenoch removing the whip, forcing her to Reform and showing the public her dividing lines on this rhetoric. Even Reform's chances of greater popularity would be damaged by her joining, so why should the Tories keep her.

The sooner the Conservatives stop letting the members choose the leader the better
