American comic books were birthed from the imaginations of children of Jewish immigrants who wanted to believe they were more than what society labeled them as. These were UNDERDOG stories. These were stories that allowed readers to engage in uncomfortable topics through the lense of fiction!
Were women needlessly oversexualized in early Marvel comics? Yes! I can call to mind countless examples of women violating public decency laws while saving the world! I don't think it was good then (and the trend of women being less dressed the more evil they were is a topic for another time)!
But! At the VERY least — women in early comics (Chris Claremont X-Men) had an incredible amount of agency! Yes, there were still oversexualized women for the gooners, but, for the most part (and certainly for the 60s-80s) these women had agency and TANGIBLE contributions to the world!
The problem with Marvel Rivals? The game does not require any engagement with the lore. Emma Frost (one of my all time favorite Marvel characters) isn't using her sexuality as a tool to further her own means, she's a Pretty Lady Who Makes Dick Hard.
The player doesn't HAVE TO engage in her character, with her personhood. She is a pretty doll for the character to control! Games like Marvel Rivals does not ask anybody to think critically about its world!
I think ALL the Marvel ladies are SMOKIN! Hot as hell and I enjoy looking at them!! There's nothing wrong with loving these characters AND finding them attractive! HOWEVER!
