Actually the app for my oven, lets my intellectually disabled sister find food by image (she can't read) and then by pressing play it sets the temperature and time (& even changes it mid cook if necessary) allowing her 3 cook food on her own. Reduces risk of food poisoning & increases independence

Not that these devices aren't incredibly helpful, but your $2,000 fridge should still work as a fridge even after development is sunset for the app in <5 years. Too many smart devices becoming e-waste-- companies shut down, newer models come out, etc. Apps don't live forever. It's a consumer issue.
