I have a discussion for #WrestleSky. I know the AEW/NJPW fan loves wrestling heavy TV as much as the WWE fans loves the cinema it brings to its show. The "why" is important, and sometimes it's as simple as pride or being a step closer to a championship. Once upon a time, it was all about the winner's share of the purse.

Also: Good as WWE's production is, I cannot in good conscience call any wrestling "cinema." Wrestling is its own, lovely beast.

Story-driven maybe? But matches are stories by themselves. I dunno, I just can't get behind the idea that the promos and non-match segments are the best part of wrestling. You can find better acting and writing almost anywhere else. Without the matches to promote, it'd be like D-grade theater.

100% agree. I don’t believe 1 aspect of how a pro wrestling match happens is more important than the match itself. Jimmy vs Jey is a great example of a bad match ruining an entire feud and making it forgetful.

This is a question that is impossible to answer because it is different for everyone. Some people care more about the why, some care more about the in ring. I personally prefer a more sports based presentation.

There is not right or wrong response because of what you said. I just want to have a different discourse vs the normal storyline vs in ring debate. I like hearing different opinions, and in wrestling everyone is correct or else we would only have 1 show to watch.

When they had WWE champion Cody vs WHC Gunther on Crown Jewel, I understood that is the best vs the best to prove dominance. No promos was needed for that. That’s what I mean by “The Why?”

No. Not a whole story but I just want a reasoning to why 2 people are wrestling. It can be as simple as to be higher ranked or get closer to a title shot. Or they said something disrespectful. Just something more than a match announcement just because.
