We could get into the nitty gritty (I'm not a lawyer tho) but yes. Its one of those "it can't hurt you, only help you".

You can never be punished for pleading the 5th (depending, speak to a lawyer)

But you can be punished for not speaking.

So always say it

The 5th applies to testimonial evidence so you don't incriminate yourself.

Idk the law on this, but there might be grounds for pigs to demand verbal compliance with an investigation. So if you saw someone shoot someone, you might have to tell them what you seen, even if you're an asshole about it

So in the case u might be forced to talk to pigs, it's best to be as vague and unhelpful as possible while also being truthful.

The 5th states you cannot be forced to be witness against yourself (aka, you cannot be forced to testify against yourself)

If a police officer asked you a question, you are free to walk away or say nothing.

If you are under arrest, you are free to plead the 5th.

Now, if you are witness to a crime (just a witness, no involvement) you can later be compelled to speak as a witness, but only if you are supeaned
