Aside from the direct impact to consumers and savers, Trump just increased the risk premium of the market, likely for a long time. It will cost companies more to finance anything they do. Project hurdle rates will be higher so more future investments won't make the grade.

It's lazy reporting. I work with US manufacturers and they are not happy about this either - it's raising the price of materials (even US ones) and creating a massive wave of uncertainty over what happens to the consumer economy. They aren't planning for more capacity, they are just battening down
