It just hit me how books that started off as bedtime stories for the authors' kids benefit from the fact that nobody's better at asking clarifying worldbuilding questions than a child trying to stave off bedtime -R

Reminds me that Wilfred Audrey (Author of the Railway Series, i.e Thomas and Friends) drew the first map of a rail line on the Island of Sodor (Thomas's Branch Line) so he could prove to his kids that the race between Thomas and Bertie was fair and they had to travel the same distance.
Speaking of Thomas deep lore, the art from the books was gorgeous. This is one of my all-time favorites by Guvnor and Peter Edwards of Stepney and Duck taking off with an express train.
