always remember how many economists point out that doing this would openly be cheaper on the whole, be more beneficial for the economy as people can stay alive and healthy, beyond the glaringly obvious moral angle
Equally, from a European perspective, it's frustrating to see Libertarian/Conservative USians go on with the "socialise it and pretend it's free" line.
Like, nobody thinks it's free. Everyone in the UK knows the NHS is funded by the government from tax money. It's still far fucking cheaper!
I get that it's hard to imagine a situation different to the one you're in. You live in a country where you can get bankrupted by an ambulance ride, sure, you think it *has* to cost that much for... some reason. But you don't have to imagine it! There's so many examples across the world to look at.
nobody ever asks who's gonna pay for the bombs, but the second somebody wants bread or medicine everybody very suddenly wants to know who's footing the bill
