this is a very church-kid intrusive thought but the thing circling around in the back of my head 100% of the time is you’re supposed to give the baby to the person who *doesn’t* agree to chop it in half

I was JUST saying that I am losing count of how many childhood bible stories those folks i grew up with are speed-running through and HERE is another one
Reading stuff like this makes me thankful that despite my parents both being mostly fuckups, they never dragged me or my siblings into any religious indoctrination.
I can NOT imagine having to deal with this crap floating around in my head every day.
The scariest thing, and I say this as a former evangelical pastor, is that offering to chop it in half is presented as an example of great wisdom. That's probably part of the reason I'm a former evangelical pastor.
wait omg is that how your church taught it? (or was it what we were taught, which was clearly the king wasn’t actually going to do that, it was a bluff to reveal who the real mother was bc she would care)
The Bible. what an absolutely wild piece of literature
i’m not a pastor and have always been an atheist but when i hung out at church youth group for something to do, it was presented as a rhetorical trick to reveal who loved the baby
