used to go out of my way to put syndicatd shows i like on in the bg, buy the DVDs (old ikr), etc, with the hope it would mean something, until i realised the artists who made what U loved got nearly nothing of that and were put out of jobs despite it, while CEOs raked it in. support artists directly

Yeah. And things have only gotten worse as time has gone by, you can be integral to a successful show, movie, game, etc and still be out on your ass at the whim of a CEO who wants more money for nothing

The rat hasn’t sued me for all the media I’ve stolen, and I’ve never heard a peep from record labels about the 60GB of music I’ve stolen. The things people steal from corporations vs the things they steal from indie artists aren’t even the same.

I personally don't like any art piracy high or low cuz it only causes problems both legally and emotionally.
That said stealing art from indi artists is by far the lowest you can go.
Even the top level indi artists aren't living in mansions in Miami.

Piracy is at its best when it's media preservation. Like a game or show you can get in any other way anymore. Or like, stealing from Adobe because they're absolutely vile toward their user base (tho I'd rather people use other, better software)

I maintain that the only time piracy is ACTUALLY legitimately immoral is when you're pirating "in-print" indie works. If the creator is at least one out of "a big corporation" and "no longer selling it themselves", go for it! But don't pirate stuff indie creators are making money from.

("No longer selling it themselves" means "there is no available way to purchase it and have the money go to them", not that they have to be the one managing the sales.)
