My 3 Yr old springer spaniel has cruciate ligament surgery today. He's on crate rest for 6 weeks and is in a lampshade collar for 2 weeks. He's such a big, lively dog. How do we manage this?

Hi Shelly. Sorry to hear that. Our Collie damaged his when he was 2. Had to sit with him practically all day for 3 weeks to keep him quiet and when needed to go out for his "business" put him on a short lead. I know it's not easy. Wishing him a full recovery
He still has his fentanyl patch so he's pretty quiet. The wound looks clean and he's eating but not drinking. Odd. Had him out for 3 small walks and he's taking weight on the injured leg. Only 41 more days in the crate!!
My heart goes out to you. Maybe try crushed ice, our boy likes eating snow so might work! He also seems to prefer drinking the rain water which gathers in pots outside than the fresh water we have inside for him! 🙄 Keep us up to date on how he's getting on.
Thank you! He had his stitches checked this morning and all healing well. I bought a softer type of collar from MaxiZoo that closes with velcro and he drank. He drank again after his 2nd walk. The vet gave me calming tablets and more painkillers and removed the patch.
