I would've benefitted more as a child if instead of being placed in the gifted class, I had an autistic representative who spoke on my behalf about my needs (DX included).
Many cultures have folklore about children being replaced overnight with an identical “other” child.
Many of these folktales even attribute what are now known as Autistic traits to the “new” child.
It’s easy to see that many of these stories are *about* Autistic children.
Coined ~1970s, a term for children thought to have supernatural powers & purpose.
Many of the non-metaphysical attributes of Star Children are indistinguishable from describing an Autistic child especially along the lines of an “old soul”

What “Gifted” is is a moving target but it generally describes Neurodivergent child who shows atypical talents and does not *yet* demonstrate clinically significant deficits … many articles on Gifted will literally talk *around* ASD (and ADHD) to avoid saying it.

Many “Gifted” Children meet the “criteria” of being Autistic while not *yet* meeting the criteria for a DX of ASD.
And these challenges often become “clinically significant” later in life for an Autistic person (making them eligible for the DX of ASD)
As soon as I saw the word here it hit me and that was a cool knowledge connection moment, which is very enjoyable...
I remember reading that and thinking “a lot of this applies to me, but some is just new age bs”.
