As someone who doesn't know anything about it, what's the process of creating such an image?

Using an 8" telescope and astro camera. Several 90 sec videos were taken. Using special astronomy software, a few hundred frames from each video were added together (a process called stacking). The final combined image was processed to sharpen it and reduce noise. Hope this helps!

Great result. How much of a “zoom in” is this compared to what you can see via the astrocamera during capture? I presume you’re cropping pretty tightly?

It's cropped a little but not much. The attached video may help. The bigger black area is the full size of the camera sensor. The yellow box is a "live crop" during capture to reduce file size. I then increase the final image canvas size a little for aesthetic reasons. Hope that helps

Helpful, thanks! I’m used to SLR capture but not astrocam yet. I’ve just ordered a 2x for my sv205 on a Nexstar 4se so I’m not expecting amazing things but looking forward to diving into learning.
