On this day in 1965, Frederick Fleet sadly took his own life at 8 Norman Road, Southampton.

As lookout on Titanic, Fleet first saw the iceberg on that fateful night. He rang the bell, phoned the bridge, and told them: “Iceberg, right ahead.”

He was buried in Holybrook Cemetery.
