I've expected this for about a year. Every time I went to JoAnn, the shelves – and especially the floss bins – were just emptier and emptier and the store looked like a ghost town. You can't have sales when you offer no inventory.
People in my quilting subreddit kinda snickered when I said i went the first weekend of the GOB sales. The sales weren't very deep but I knew that things were going to get crazy if I waited too long.
I stocked up on solids, holiday, and licensed fabrics.
I have always preferred the marketing aesthetics of Michael's but time and time again, I have learned that Joann's was the place for the niche stuff. Absolutely fucked that it's going under.
... and by way of contrast, the Joann's near me is old, small and the interior looks like it hasn't been updated in 30 years, which puts me off, but I have ALWAYS been able to find what I'm looking for there. Trust me, I'm right there with you. This sucks badly.
Yeah, we are. The nearest Michael's is a good 40 minutes from my house. But a bitch will have to do it, because fuck if Hobby Lobby is getting my money.
I feel like people don’t know how many small businesses this is going to affect moving forward. Joanns was sometimes the only place to get certain things.

I'm not a big textile/yarn girlie but I feel so bad for my friends who are.
