Hoff’s tone has changed markedly since ill-informed QPR tirade. Within days he understood the process involved. Somebody clearly had a word. Now he must do same with intemperate, impetuous players. The apposite cliché is: ‘Don’t give them chance to make decisions that hurt us’. (End)

A good take. Some of yesterday’s cautions (e.g. Nunez) could be described as an occupational hazard. Most were unnecessary, naive or idiotic. A lack of cool minds, game management and on-field leadership

There can’t be ‘consistency’. A (neutral) human gives what he/she sees (which is not everything, but not viewed through the prism of your/my partisanship). Also a ref trying to be consistent is often urged to show ‘common-sense’ or ‘feeling for the game’.

Absolutely. Actually we have clocked up far more yellows in the last couple of seasons. As for the suspensions… I’ve no sympathy, just don’t give the officials cause. This lack of discipline is becoming an issue.

The petulant unecessary fouls leading to goals (see also QPR) are becoming something of a trend, along with the "I'm going to cut inside and shoot regardless of whether someone is better placed" runs. I fear that Borja is starting to play for Borja rather than the team

Sainz wonder goals cover and blind people, much of his other play is very poor. Couple of times recently he has embarrassed himself and the club. He stays down far too long when he should get up, and helping team mates. He loses the ball is dangerous places. If we can get £18-20m I would take it

I love Borja. He is a wonderful player. But he can be very CR7. He likes to try and do everything himself. To an extent that is great. In his role you want a player with self belief who is prepared to take risks. He's 2nd for number of dribbles in Championship, but is also 3rd for being dispossessed

I know many will say it's shooting ourselves in the foot or I'm writing off any chances of play offs. But looking at the bigger picture, he's at his peak here. He isn't going to sign a new deal and his value is only going to decrease from now. So get a great deal and reinvest in the whole team.

Every game there are 3 or 4 histrionic over-reactions to nothing, followed by encores of sitting ‘hurt’ while game goes on. The world has noted. Refs live in that world. I’d ask: why is our club the only one in the Championship not doing anything about his drama shows?
