I don’t like that they’re often in the middle of the road not at the curb so you’re surrounded by cars

I think this has to do more with the character of the road than the placement of the bus stop.

Something like this is fine for the bus setup (ignore the lack of bike infrastructure and the on street parking) but once you get two lanes of car traffic in either direction i think the rider experience worsens quite a bit and i would prefer curb side bus priority lanes
