As a European who is blessed with great tap water, what exactly is the reason for fluorinating (or chlorinating) tap water anymore in 2024? We switched to UV for water purification years ago 🤔

NOTE: Not saying it should be stopped in the us WITHOUT a replacement treatment like UV!

Nothing to do with water treatment as such, fluoride is added to water as a tooth decay preventative, and it has been overwhelmingly successful. Fluoride is a mineral that can occur naturally in water as well.

Your response raised my eyebrows because too much fluoride is actually bad, and it also made me wonder why it's not done here.

TL;DR: In Europe we use fluorinated toothpaste instead, so the daily intake can be controlled much better. (It no longer depends on whether you drink one or 3 liters a day)

Too much fluoride can lead to discolored teeth and bone, kidney and other problems.

We tried in the Netherlands in the 60s, and the positive effect on teeth was great, but the negative side effects on overall health were not.

So before I was even born we already abandoned it, as did most countries

Now, I don't know exactly what RFK is proposing, and given his general remarks I feel uncomfortable siding with him.
