Years ago someone told a friend I'd never sell a novel; they said that two days before I got my first novel contract. Just today I saw someone saying that I'm not that good of a writer, which, okay, but I'm contracted for 16 more books, so I guess I'll keep at it.
So, yeah: Fuck 'em. Do your thing.

Every single one of your favorite artists started out as a wannabe. They all worshiped other artists; were all told it would never happen for them. They all had an inner voice telling them they weren't good enough.
But they had the stones to tell all those voices to go screw and made art anyway.

Btw I love old man's war, it's such a great series.
If you’re actually not that good of a writer then I guess I missed that memo. 🤷♂️
There's a quality that few writers have, a definitive "style imprimatur", which you impart to every work. It's why the knowledge that a new Scalzi book is on the way never fails to lift my spirits, which is something that we sorely need these days!
Yes, I really do.
Shopping w/ them later, got off the escalator, complete stranger: Oh, I saw you last night, you were great!
Yes, Dad, I really do.

Some of us enjoy your books
Don't pay attention to those who don't like 'em.
Thanks!
So I'm glad ya got published.
No seriously though anyone who's not read it go do it, right now actually.
To hell with it. We're all corpses in the end, might as well leave interesting obituaries. Thank you.
PS - I really enjoy your work.
Your books have rarely made me think seriously about what it is too be human. They do not ask great questions about the nature of reality. I don't think you often set out to do these things.
I think you hit what you aim for though
