Exactly. It isn't literal, it's what I commented on the og post. Closer meaning more intimate, more relational, more connection. As in, most nude art sucks because it's self absorbed photographers obsessed with "the (female) form" and it gives it subtle but ruinous objectifying undercurrents
I interpret it as making sure nothing extraneous is in the frame, which can mean getting physically closer. But doesn’t it depend on the goal of the photographer? A figure in a beautiful (or harsh) environment… perhaps they’re looking to convey fragility.
Making sure nothing extraneous is in frame is important for beginners, or I’d phrase it as making sure that everything that’s in the frame has a reason for being there. It all needs to serve what you’re trying to convey as a photographer.
That sort of focus could certainly be described as ‘closer.’
