According to news reports, Jabbar is a former U.S. Army member. This would not be totally unusual - there have been past examples of ISIS-supporting individuals who have U.S. armed services experience both active duty and retired. /2

Though in general, despite the occasional feverish media piece, a history of military service is not an indicator of potential radicalization, nor are former military members significantly more likely to join foreign terrorist groups than the general public. 3/end
