It doesn't make any attempt to preserve OG callbacks (which is a good thing, the 1997 translation is awful), and so when we go back to insert them in SAC, there's all sorts of cases where the Remake version is specific to non-OG scene choreography (which, again, is good for Remake)
But why do you feel this specific line/scene epitomizes that last point? Cloud still comes off the train after Barret does, so Barret telling Cloud not to fall behind doesn't really clash with even the OG scene choreography?
What you're seeing is the SAC version of the line. Remake's is "Get down here, merc." Red = forced rewrite for context, green = overlap, white = not in Remake.
I like "merc" as a localization choice for how Barret sees Cloud during the beginning for the FFVII "Re" trilogy, but I can also see how it'd not work with the OG!FFVII.
