It’s like why couldn’t everyone just put an advertisement up on the side of their car that you can flag them down for a ride when they wanted extra cash? That’s because it’s illegal to operate a taxi without the appropriate requirements. Why should it be different under an app? Makes no damn sense.

Plus, it used to be that London Taxi drivers needed to know their maps off by heart. The Knowledge, it was called. There was... a Drama/Film? Documentary? One or the other. I remember it being advertised on British TV.

The Knowledge still exists, but only ever applied to black cabs (aka Hackney carriages).

Minicabs (private hire taxis) have never had to pass the knowledge.

However all cabs in the UK incl private hire (which includes Uber etc) do have to be specially licensed and that does make a difference.

As a driver, there’s no reason it should be hard to get around. Uber’s map is pretty accurate, but Lyft is weird. Uber lets you open google or Apple Maps from the app as well which is handy.

The bad drivers annoy me. Some of us take pride in our work.

That's weird...I was a driver for some years, school bus, para transit. The company I was with had a great driver ethic, we transported some of the most fragile people around, with breathing tubes, power chairs, nurse ride-a-long types. I can't imagine serving the public without an once of training.

I mean the drivers get like 30%-50% of your fare. It’s going to be harder to have high quality consistently I think.

Definitely agree uber and Lyft need to be regulated more heavily.

Have you had better experience with the higher tiers? Comfort for example requires a certain amount of rides and
