Seriously, it's the fact that they brought up anything to discuss about whether that murderer was trans or not, even that itself made the whole thing into a long-running persistent cultural issue focal to trans people and the movie "Silence of the Lambs", and it was just really *unnecessary*

A homophobe is homophobic in front of the heroic main character, she calls him out immediately, he later dies, she witnesses part of that
