A religion can be progressive, but it is impossible for the Catholic Church. No real change could ever happen, because that would be admitting that the other infallible popes were wrong.
Usually conclaves try to pick a pope that's different to the previous one (Benedict XVI being a rare exception) so at least I am glad that they chose to pick a pope that while being different to Francis, isn't a reactionary conservative.
