I'm not a hater.
I can see the legitimate use of AI as a tool for creators to explore, iterate, and even make final polished products.
I often compare the AI we have now to Photoshop 1.0, I believe it can and will radically change what and how we create.
So avoiding it is possible but not ideal.

AI (and tech at large) has a lot of problems that have been largely ignored for the sake of "progress".
Data centers (and AI specifically) are taking a large toll on the environment around them both ecologically on a large scale and also societally, most especially the nearby residents.
AI generation (and any tool that massively speeds up creation time) leads to more and more content saturation, Slop.
We've already seen how content with little value, even innocuous cat videos, can lead to attention and knowledge drain and a general lack of motivation to create.
And are becoming more lonely as Slop becomes the norm.
The lack of shared cultural touchstones reduces our chances to have quality social communication and bonding. I'm genuinely thankful for concepts like vtubers, streamers, or sports for providing a sense of unity.
The slop can still be shared but usually it's in such niche silos, breaking out becomes difficult.
The feeds will feed, people become complacent, and I'm worried that some wonderful people mistake the feed and slop for purpose. (But maybe that's just what I value).
And worst of all this is only the surface.
The depth and breadth of the side effects of slop and AI and feeds is incomprehensible, literally.
We don't yet have the skills or decision making frameworks to reason about (especially, at the everyday level) how it will affect all of us.
My mind has been racing, with so little time to process before worrying about the next issue.
For now, at least at work, I'm going to push to build the future where creators are empowered.
Thanks for listening to my problems, it's very kind of you.
Love you, take care!
