How do you determine what are " a few" tutors. And what cards are considered tutors?

We defined tutors as anything that searches your library for a nonland card. If we've missed something or included something we shouldn't, let us know and we'll try to fix that up.

We choose to define a few as 3 or less (similar to the game changers in Bracket 3. We're listening to feedback though.

Well I think what you've messed up on is feeding into the idea that nature's lore and three visits and other land ramp tutors are not tutors they absolutely are. But no one's going to say that no one's going to talk about that except @theasianavenger.bsky.social apparently.

To f/u on my prev comment: Bracket 2 decks should be able to run up to 3 tutors, and bracket 3 up to 5. 3 random lower power tutors do not a good deck make.
Is there a way for you to internally distinguish low mana tutors vs. high mana tutors? E.g. a DT/Vamp/Enlight pkg vs. trink/trib/treas mages?

Pls raise the # of tutors from 3 to at least 5. I've got a casual UB artifacts deck that is definitely a 2, but it's locked into a 3 bc I run 5 bad tutors, incl. Waterlogged Teachings (only bc it's a land!) My deck is <$5/card, and very weak. Shouldn't be a 3! Even Gavin said Fabricate is low power.

I'd recommend narrowing it to "anything that searches your library for a nonland card the same turn it was cast." For instance, Garruk, Primal Hunter is considered a tutor because his -7 creates an emblem that tutors at your end step. Barring combos, there are many ways to stop that from happening.

The same whay that some creatures that can tutor when attacking or dealing damage can tutor on the same turn if a haste source exist.
A planeswaller can ult in the same turn by a number of ways.
Idk if thats really a good metric. But it might be better than what wotc gave us

Oh it's definitely not cut and dry, hence the "barring any combos" condition. I just think it's more fair to judge cards by the most likely board state when they are played. Not a perfect solution, but I think it's better than assuming immediate access to those abilities.

Conversely, Liliana Vess is considered a Tutor because her -2 lets you search for any card and put it on top of your library. Since that can be activated as soon as she comes down, I'd call that an accurate label.

I think my only suggestion would be to narrow down the threshold for something that counts as a tutor. Cards like Runed Crown or Guidelight Pathmaker don't feel as annoying or powerful as Demonic Tutor or Mystical Tutor. It is hard to narrow down though, I wish they'd give a more definite list.

When does the bracket update? I removed all but 3 game changers from a deck but it's still showing as bracket 4. From the tool tip there's nothing else that would qualify the deck as bracket 4 except the 3 game changers.

There was a bug where the user bracket was set too high. You can fix this on your deck by going to the settings and re-setting it to Auto-Estimate. If that doesn't work for you, let us know!

We added an inline icon next to cards that are on the commander Game Changers list, so they can be easily identified when you add something to your deck that might change your bracket (and since the Game Changers are "part watch list").

We added the ability to highlight any of the cards that might cause your bracket to automatically change as well: Tutors, Extra Turns, Mass Land Denial, and Game Changers.

And lastly, how we calculate the bracket: we automatically check requirements based on the things we know about a deck (e.g., how many Game Changers are used, etc). We allow a user to specify their intentions for a deck in their settings. We use the higher of the two brackets to accommodate abuse.

How do you calculate brackets when a deck no longer has any game changers, other criteria are no longer met, etc.? I took all game changers out of a deck and it's still being auto-rated as a 3, when it would fit into a 2 given the lack of tutors/game changers/mld/extra turns. What's your process?

Super appreciate this whole project! As a tiny aside, what determines whether something counts as a tutor? It seems odd for, say, Kaito Shizuki to count when the tutor part is a planeswalker ult, and thus something that probably doesn’t go off 99% of the time he’s played.
