What I'm seeing (anecdotally) is a broadening of the term to mean "any public space that isn't work or home" without the connotations of community/rest.
For example, there was a dust-up on TikTok a few months back about grocery store etiquette that constantly referred to them as third spaces.

Also there’s no guarantee any given zoomer is staying consistent with general usage. Sometimes it’s ok to roll your eyes at the youngs.
