I started on viola, which is actually not the norm. (Most violists start on violin.) Funny/telling story: String teacher came to general music class (3rd grade) to stir up interest. I wanted to take viola bc it was different 🙄😊. ...

It's amazing that upstate NY public schools, in the early '70s, offered strings in 3rd grade and winds/brass in 4th!
