Its not physically possible, thankfully! The oceans will be a net sink of heat until the Earth reaches thermal equilibrium, though there is still some year-to-year variability in atmospheric heat content due to El Nino and La Nina events.

the observed changes to absorbed solar and outgoing longwave radiation do not resemble at all modelled expectation. It's now understood the energy accumulation doesn't happen by reducing outgoing longwave radiation, but by feedbacks that increase solar absorbed. This fact is seriously under reported

This seems to suggest that an acceleration of surface temperature warming in the last decade seems to along with an acceleration of ocean heat content.
