I had sex for the first time a week or so after my honeymoon. At no time before or since have I ever had the impression that anyone cares whether I am a virgin or not.

I think the idea of “fake” in this context is that nothing changes. The fake aspect is that a boy somehow “becomes a man”, but having sex does not magically confer maturity. I had sex before most of my friends, but I was fortunately wise enough not to pressure others to unwillingly do the same.

Virginity is a concept, it doesn't really mean anything unless you personally assign it meaning. Some people find meaning in the first time they do something: first steps as a baby, first words, first day at school, first day at a job. For others, it can be just Tuesday.
