It's less about it being a game itself and more about gameifying the experience of learning it keeps the learners engaged aswell as gives them a chance to give input by playing along with whatever the game aspect would be even if it's just getting points after every question 1/2
Getting immediate feedback such as "You just answered X question right" can lead to the students staying engaged with the material it's also helpful for a lot of people with ADHD or people on the spectrum (source I'm them) thank you for listening to my Ted talk 2/2

Games have elements about them that capture people’s attention, that’s what can be applied here
It’s very clear as we’re progressing the current style of sit for hours and listen to these topics you don’t care about is not working.
