I've played a couple of Fallout games (3, 4, New Vegas, and 76), but I never found any of them very exciting. I found the gameplay fun, but got bored with the setting after about an hour of playing them.

I did a deal with a friend: they'd play Horizon: Zero Dawn as long as I'd play Fallout 4. She definitely got the better end of the deal given my repeated attempts to bash myself unconscious with my keyboard just to escape the ceaseless monotony.

There are only 2 (3 if you count 76 but I won't).

NV is buggy as heck, shows its age but it gives you total freedom after 10 minutes. Highly rrplayable with mods.

FO4 is a great game with a too long railroaded start and too much focus on semi-mandatory crafting.

Fo4. It has a much more pervasive story while NV is way too sandboxy (which is why I invariably replay it with some wacky mod combination for 20-30 hours).

Also it has a romance system wuth actual dialogue and characters (unlike Skyrim) and an amazing gameplay.

NV... sandboxy ? If anything NV is the one I would argue is the most railroaded, while the Bethesda FO3&4 are the sandboxes. 😅

I fell out of love with this game for the longest time, but then found an old save file (see Gandalf saying the "no memory of this place" quote) and quickly fell in love again, completing the story in an 'explosive' manner and gobbling up all the DLC. But building? Nah, I've no interest in The Sims.

There’s a mod called Sim Settlements that does it all for you. All you have to do is assign people to tasks and bring them resources (if you like) and they will wire up and build themselves.
