Felt this for some time. The cruelty, indifference, lies, and elite self-interest has become so obvious it's not worth pointing out. Meanwhile, everything else keeps degrading, falling apart, so that everyone can plainly see where we're headed. Even so, inertia propels us onward, locked in

That's the thing a lot of the cruel types don't understand: their brazenness is why media subtlety is impossible now. They will never get back the literature/movie/critics/etc. scene of past as long as they keep being mad people aren't actively being as cruel as possible

when these things are happening openly, without any attempt to deny, downplay, or defend them, what's even left to say? you can repeat the depressingly obvious to people who can do little but nod along. or you attempt to appeal to the people to whom mercy, compassion, and human life means nothing
