.. so I decided while we were there, to collect seeds from the apples and grow it's descendent. I'm aware that apples are usually grafted onto crap apple stock but I wanted to try anyway so I could have something to remember him with. Of the 12 seeds, 11 germinated! I was pleased. 2/6

Covid hit 5 months after mum died, and selling the house was a chuffing nightmare that pushed me into a pretty dark place but that's a whole other story. I potted up the seedlings and grew them on. I gave two saplings to my brother, kept 4 for myself and put the rest out for people to take. 3/6

Two of the saplings succumbed to mildew and two thrived. When the house finally sold in 2022 they came to Scotland with us. The guy who bought the house has apparently bulldozed that part of the garden and turned it into a drive. So the apple tree will have been destroyed. 4/6

Of the remaining two young trees, only one has survived. It has sentimental value and I hope to keep it alive for the rest of my natural. I sowed forget-me-nots around the base, along with lavender to deter aphids etc and some ivy. 5/6

I know that the apples from this (if it ever gets any) will not come true, but that's fine. I didn't plant it to harvest, just in memory of my dad. Who loved his garden. 💚 🌱

I want to keep it in a container as the rowan is my 'full size' tree. So it'll need pruning down each year.
