Was working well finally with the Canes to start the season. Likely helped them finally sell him. I think the Canes need that type of player or their offense can go stagnant.

Sure, it was. But they've also seen it for how many years now? Can you bet on it continuing, or do you think it'll regress because he's shown those flashes in the past but has consistently done it.

It's not like his underlying numbers this year (or the past) were that good either

Yeah Tulsky is THE most analytically minded GM in the NHL, possibly in North American pro sports. This is 100% the way he thinks when making these decisions. If anything, recent performance is an indicator to him to sell high

also if he's not a truly elite, top of the league wing in there system (which he flat out hasn't been and why they traded him for Rantanen), then they need to allocate that spot to a C which is the position they desperately need to fill.

Well they have Stank as 2C now but still very weak on the wings. Kotkeniemi is another contract they could look to move out in a similar deal that the Avs just did. But I still see the biggest issue with the Canes is generating offense.

I'd expect him to be 3C, but their wings are fine imo. Jarvis is terrific, Svech is fine (albeit underwhelming this year), Hall is fine, and Jackson Blake has looked really solid since getting a top 6 role. They've got Nadeau who looks legit legit next year.
