I was asking for our system to do a seed library and my branch manager loved it, but for weird reasons. Like saying, I shit you not, "We could use that. Might need one for when the Dems decide to take our clouds away to REALLY screw us over."

Same. But being the curious sort, I had to entertain the conversation to hear them out. And geez the logic is stupid at best. It drives me crazy being around here
Yeah, that sounds like my neck of the woods, too. But hey, at least you heard them out and know what we're up against. I admire your patience!
Also, how those people maintain a job, tie their shoelaces, or operate a vehicle is just... beyond me. It must take every last brain cell they've got lol
The seed library and library garden are popular and when I have all ages seed starting programs I get a fair amount of homeschoolers and folks into homesteading and such. However my native seeds section is very popular with conservationists. You reach all kinds of people.
I would love something like this for our system! The branch where I work from desk has started an Herbalism class and I've been tossing around the idea of a gardening focused seed library, but no one wants to get the ball rolling.
How did y'all start your program? And what resources are there?
Well, we had talked about it off and on, but then one February one of our board members said sheβd like for us to have one βby growing season.β Some of us were like, thatβs now for folks who do seed starting. Anywayβ¦.
I did some fast research. Iβm not in Michigan, but their seed saving network has a lot of great info. https://miseedlibrary.org your state might have its own seed saving network.
Seed Savers has a lot of great info and will send you seeds: https://seedsavers.org Your library will still need to purchase some seeds. Most do. Other companies will also donate seeds but you have to catch them at the right time of year.
