Brett Weinstein and his wife Heather Heying both come across as just extremely bitter and envious of more accomplished scientists. I suspect that’s why they take such a contrarian stance on things. It’s the whole Galileo complex thing.

If most scientists are saying Covid vaccines are safe and good, they have to say the opposite. If scientists say ivermectin isn’t a Covid treatment, they give it to their 14yo child instead of getting them vaxxed. If scientists say sex isn’t binary, they say it is. Etc. Etc.
Actually, you see this a lot with anti-trans (ex-)scientists like Colin Wright and Emma Hilton also. If you’re a relatively obscure figure in your field then the prospect of becoming Twitter famous by “speaking truth to power” is probably quite alluring.
I think it also betrays a misunderstanding of how science works. It’s a social practice, a collaborative effort. The Great Man (or Great Woman) who single-handedly turns everything on its head is mostly a myth.
