The station was extensively reconstructed in 1959 to amplify the existing 6 tracks (4 to SY & 2 to ER) to 10 tracks (6 to SY & 4 to ER). The photo shows the shiny new station building in Swan St, and the first of the new bridges being installed. New platforms are being built at the top centre.
This is interesting!
But what about the buildings at the Northern side?
From these pictures it seems that they were still in place as the space for laying the new tracks had already been arranged.
