if you want to know how absurdly stereotypical of a Canadian upbringing I had, this is where I was born. Grew up learning how to do moose calls in class, and leg wrestling my classmates every February.

we don't live here anymore but also yes i should confirm that my dad DOES have some throwing axes and a target in the backyard that he wheels out at parties
That Rick Mercer guy's pretty funny. It reminds me of the rural Washington festivals I grew up with. A lot of axe throwing and log rolling and caber tossing. We even had moose calling in class. I think we secretly wanted to be Canadian. Still do.
The song "When The Ice Worm Nests Again" bubbles back up to the surface sometimes, and I think I only ever heard it on a crappy 45 RPM record player in my Grade 1 class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IokkPlY2HOY

i didn't even know what a canadian accent sounded like until i lived abroad for a year then came home and was like "oh no the rumours are true"
