Yeah, many people in the art community are sadly still super underestimating the power of this app for organic growth. I am not even a BIG big account anymore, there is artists topping out with 100k, 200k now. And you can actually post links and people are actually checking out your projects here.

i am one of the late newcomers both in here and on twitter (joined during musk rule and ended up deleting soon after), but even tho i have little numbers here, bsky is the only place where i feel welcomed and seen and dont feel like im competing for a sliver of attention in a cutthroat game

Very much this. I was on there in 2012 but really didn't start using it for art etc until 2017 and barely cracked 7.5k before I pulled the plug in 2023

I'm not even a full-time artist, I set up a sticker shop with some doodles a little bit ago and every so often plug it and I made two sales yesterday. I never would've done that on xitter.

yeah having a bit of churn is GOOD actually. It's GOOD to have to migrate every once in a while. Loosens the soil so new things can grow.

Unfortunately the way bsky is structured still favors the creation of insular communities.

As soon dust settled and people found their circles, connected with their previous friends, starter packs had enough people, it's kinda closed for newcomers. Tags and feeds scroll too fast for new finds.

no this is absolutely true of anywhere established, but at least here it's a lot easier to build your own feed. My bubble doesn't really touch most other bubbles so I actually see what I want, plus overall I still think it's comparatively easier to connect with ppl, but you have to put in the effort

I may not have the follower numbers I had on Twitter, but every time I post my art in between my daily shitpost, I see new faces engaging with it. it’s exciting to see new people engage with my stuff alongside the regulars.

I joined as an artist in ~2010 and topped out at ~1.3k in spite of being quite active, so I don't think it was strictly that, unfortunately, haha. I do already have more followers here than I got in all the years I was on twitter, though!

Oh yeah, people are terrified to join newer places, but I had 2k on Twitter and now have 11.4k here, just because I joined right after opening. I showed up to the party early and now I'm QUEEN OF THE SKIES.

yeah i had a bit of a confidence crisis last year shooting from 1k to 15k in less than a year for a whole slew of reasons but god my life would be wildly different for the worse if I hadn't joined up when I did and I'm not exaggerating. the coattails were ripe for riding!!!

I agree. There is so much more engagement here, and just having timelines filled with art, or seeing other artists has been so good. Oddly, I have the same number of followers here compared to Twitter. But in a much shorter amount of time. I could never imagine being at 2k let alone 11k! Congrats!
